# Value from My Dearest Sister (Four Candles)

This time I want to talk about my sister. She is the eldest child from my family. Growing up with her two younger brothers (I am the youngest one and I have a big brother) made her had to show that she is counted as a leader for her two younger brother. With her basic personality as a dominant choleric and combined with sanguine she proved that she could lead herself and her brothers. (This book help me so much to understanding people personality; Here is the review)

She is a very teachable and open minded woman. I remember she said that “Life isn’t just wake up, eat, work and then go to sleep.” “If you want to be big, don’t sweat small stuff in your life.” “See the big picture, always see the biggest one so whatever you lose now is just a small thing.” “Big people never let whatever happen now stops their foot steps to reach their goal.” I’ve learned a lot of thing from her but she never stops improving herself so I never graduated too.

Last week she sent me an email with “Bahasa”. The email is telling the story about “Four Candles”. The mail is so inspiring and after read that, I promise to my self I have to put it on my blog and share it to another one. But I have to put it with English. Then I start to search the “Four Candles” story with Google and I’ve got this inspiring clip from this site. Lets us enjoy this one together.

The Story of the four candles - The funniest home videos are here

The Four Candles burned slowly.
Their ambiance was so soft you could hear them speak...

The first candle said, "I Am Peace, but these days, nobody wants to keep me lit."
Then Peace's flame slowly diminished and went out completely.

The second candle said, "I Am Faith, but these days, I am no longer indispensable."
Then Faith's flame slowly diminished and went out completely.

Sadly the third candle spoke, "I Am Love and I haven't the strength to stay lit any longer."
"People put me aside and don't understand my importance.

They even forget to love those who are nearest to them."
And waiting no longer, Love went out completely.

Suddenly...

A child entered the room and saw the three candles no longer burning.
The child began to cry,

"Why are you not burning? You are supposed to stay lit until the end."

Then the Fourth Candle spoke gently to the little boy,
“Don't be afraid, for I Am Hope, and while I still burn, we can re-light the other candles." With shining eyes, the child took the Candle of Hope and lit the other three candles.

Never let the Flame of Hope go out. With Hope in your life, no matter how bad things may be, Peace, Faith and Love may shine brightly once again.

So my biggest hope is this one could be a value to the other Readers. And from the deepest I want to say my thanks to my dearest Sister. Hope she read this little write and wishing she never stop improving herself and people around her. In my next write I will try to share more value which I got from the people around me. I fully believe that every person in this world have even a little part inside him/her to inspiring each other.

~Be a candle if you can’t be a sun

Best Wishes

# The Truth about Rejection

Rejection... Many of us ever feel these feelings, the feelings of being put down by others. At the moment, we may start to think that we don’t deserve to succeed, we may start to think that we are incompetent or we even may start to think that we have took the wrong direction or decisions. The question is “Why do we feel badly down for that?” and it’s continued with “What is your idea about rejection?”

Here is the ordinary people’s idea about rejection. We are use to thinking that this world should runs perfectly, so being rejected means that we are bad and being accepted means that we are good. Am I right?

If we think that good things must be accepted because they are good and that bad things must be accepted because they are bad, then we are in a big problem about the idea of rejection. I am not talking about good and right or bad and wrong, but when we rejected, at that moment we feel badly hurt and have an idea that we are standing at the wrong side. Is it true? This isn’t about arguing with someone who rejected us. But pay your attention please. They who had rejected us are an ordinary human too. And the question is, “As an ordinary human, could they stand on the wrong side or took the bad decisions?” The truth doesn’t only need to be the truth in order to be accepted, the truth in your eyes doesn’t mean the same in other people eyes. So why should we have to take a rejection become a big problems.

This is the truth about rejection from my inexperienced eyes. You may get rejected while you are good, you may be rejected while you are better than the person who rejected you, simply because this life is not a perfect one and consider that life isn’t always fair, however, if you did believe in yourself enough to fight till the end, your light will shine everywhere and your idea will be accepted and you will be the winner.

# Big and Small Wave

It was told that in the middle of the big vast ocean, a big wave was rolling up with its thunder voice, seemed to enjoy its power as if showing off its big and majestic self. While far away behind the big wave, there was a small wave trying hard to catch up. It looked so weak, wobbly, and helpless and then left far behind. Finally, the little wave could only give up and just follow wherever the big wave went. In its mind, there was always a question of why it was weaker and helpless.

One day the little wave approached the big wave to pour its heart out and it asked, “Hey there big wave… Wait ...!” The big wave could only hear the cry softly. Then he slowed down and turned around to search where the voice came from. “what’s up my little friend?” The big wave asked with its might voice.

“Hi, could you please just lower your voice? Listen to me, how come that you can turn out to be so big? So powerful, so mighty, huge and strong? While me... uh… so small, weak, helpless. What actually makes us so different?”

The big wave answered, “My friend, you yourself think you are so small and so helpless, while on the other hand, you think that I am so big and remarkable. This kind of opinion arises in you due to your lack of knowledge regarding your own true self.” “My true self? If I am not a small wave, then who am I?” “Please explain it to me, I am even more puzzled and don’t understand.”

The big wave continued, “It is true that it seems there are difference between us, but actually our true selves are the same, neither you are a small wave, nor am I a big wave. Big and small wave are are only our temporary nature. Our true essence or core is the same, we are water. If you understand that we are both just water, then you will not suffer anymore, you are water, anytime you can enjoy being a big and powerful wave just like me, strong, tough and brave.”

Listening to the wise word from the big wave suddenly a new spark of understanding appeared within the small wave, “Yeah… it’s true, I am not a small wave. My true self is water, I don’t need to feel so disheartened and suffered.”

And from then on, the little wave realized and found its true powerful potential. With its diligence and persistence, it managed to find ways to make itself big, strong and powerful, just as its old friend whom he regarded as the ‘big’ wave. Finally, both of them lived side by side harmoniously. Sometimes, they took turns who was being mighty and who was being mild. Sometimes one was stronger than the other and vice versa. There they enjoyed the cycle of life meaningfully and consciously.

As human beings, we are often trapped in confusion due to the difficult situations that we are at, which actually is just the stepping or learning curves of life. Most of the times we judge them as fate and thus such myths appear: I am not lucky, my destiny is to poor, I am a failure, and at worse cases they consider that kind of condition as God’s unfairness.

By understanding that our true selves are human beings, there is no reason at all for us to feel small and unworthy compared with others. Because in fact, success, prosperity, and happiness do not exclusively belong to certain people. If others can succeed, then we can succeed too!!! The revelation and understanding regarding our true nature once, we will have leverage and life spirit as the big wave in the ocean. Ready to face all challenges with a healthy optimistic mentality, and develop our potentials the best we can to reach the success we are all entitled for.

“Our true selves are human beings!
There is no reason why we should feel either smaller or less significant than others.”

# Most Inspiring Clip from "Braveheart"

Now I fully agreed that William Wallace spirit will never die. In Braveheart (1995), Mel Gibson did a great job when he play this character and Won 5 Oscars and another 15 wins & 20 nominations. Now here is a very inspiring clip.... No.. not just one but two clips which are taken from giant video streaming site Youtube. Enjoy and be inspired.

The world seems not the same, Though I know nothing has changed.
It's all ... my state of mind, I can't leave ... it all behind.
Have to stand up to be stronger.

*Chorus
Have to try ... to break free from the thoughts in my mind
Use the time that I have, I can't say... goodbye,
Have to make it right.
Have to fight, cause I know in the end it's worthwhile
That the pain that I feel slowly fades ... away,
It will be alright.

I know ... should realize ; Time is precious ... It is worthwhile.
Despite how ... I feel inside; Have to trust ... it'll be all right.
Have to stand up to be stronger.

*Chorus

Oh, this night is too long. Have no strength to go on.
No more pain ... I'm floating away.
Through the mist see the face; Of an angel, who calls my name.
I remember you're the reason I have to stay.

*Chorus

==================================

For the pain and the sorrow caused by my mistakes
Won’t repent to a mortal whom is all to blame
Now I know I won’t make it
There will be a time we’ll get back our freedom
They can’t break what’s inside

I’ll face it 'cause it’s the heart of everything

Open up your eyes
Save yourself from fading away now, don’t let it go
Open up your eyes
See what you’ve become, don’t sacrifice
It’s truly the heart of everything

Stay with me now I’m facing my last solemn hour
Very soon I’ll embrace you on the other side
Hear the crowd in the distance, screaming out my faith
Now their voices are fading, I can feel no more pain

I’ll face it 'cause it’s the heart of everything

Open up your eyes
Save yourself from fading away now, don’t let it go
Open up your eyes
See what you’ve become, don’t sacrifice
It’s truly the heart of everything

Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Open up your eyes
Save yourself from fading away now, don’t let it go

Open up your eyes
See what you’ve become, don’t sacrifice
It’s truly the heart of everything

# Little Pink Bus (Dessert for the soul)

Last Sunday at the high noon. I was visiting my friend Kien. He has a great family. A beautiful wife and 2 little pretty princess. The 1st one name Celine and the second one name Roseline (See her picture here ). His 1st daughter was about 8 years old and she used to call me “Xu Xu”. In Mandarin that’s mean uncle. That time, her little sister still on her grandma house. After a while I was surprised when she asked me to play with her. I could see and feel that she was so excited to show me her toy collections. Actually she never likes this before. Beside that her father is cleaning his favorite aquarium. So I agreed to take a little time with this little princes.

And this wise story began... Laughing and smiling while she taking out all her toys from a cabinet. I could feel she is so happy that time. She showed me lots of her toys. She took out a plenty of child books about animals. I think her parents are wise enough to buy her that thing. And then she continued with dolls and the other toys. But when she took out a little pink bus…., suddenly her face drop down and I heard she talk to herself “Oh... No... It is broken...” And then I pick up that little bus and try to see if I can fix it. I saw the little bus was broke and it cause by a or maybe two slams on it.

Then I started to ask her “Who broke it?” but inside I fully believed, it wasn’t her who broke it. Then I asked her again. “Did “Mei Mei” (younger sister in Mandarin) broke it?” Then she raise up her little face and saw me with scared eyes. And guess what she said? “Xu Xu, Don’t become angry. Forgive her... She doesn’t mean it. She is just a little girl and she doesn’t know how to take care a toy. Please don’t angry.”

I keep silent for a moment and keep looking at her innocent little face. I could feel something outstanding come inside my brain and my heart. A little girl who still about 8 years old could show an outstanding value like a wise old woman and I could feel something slapped my face (my heart actually). Then I put down that little broken bus. Change her focus with the other toys. But honestly inside me, I’m still absorbing her wise words. After that, her father had finished his work and it’s time for her to take a noon rest. She keeps back all her toys in the cabinet and seems forgot about that little pink bus. What a great value of wisdom from a little girl.

# Smiling

Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner,
And someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
Then realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine,
Could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
Don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
And get the world infected.

# 10 Steps To Creating Value In Work

Here is a great read for employees. So how about me and the other unemployed? Never mind, don't be so sensitive. This write is not for discriminated the employees or the unemployed. We talk about the values which is useful in our life. Who knows one day you become a great employees or even a great employer. So lets check out this "10 Steps to Creating Value on Work"

1. Examine why you work. While the purpose of the job is to provide financial stability for the family, the purpose of the work is more than that. It is an expression of your abilities and talents that gives you fulfillment in what you do. It is something that enables you to make a significant contribution to your organization while, at the same time, add value to your own career development.

2. Love your work. Enjoy what you do and know that the work you do allows you to further develop as a person destined for greater things. Write down those benefits, and technical and personal skills.

3. Be effective rather than efficient. Efficiency is doing everything well. Effectiveness is doing well what is really important. Efficient people get bogged down in the dilemma that there simply isn't enough time to do everything well. Effective people make choices. They focus on what needs doing.

4. Maximize your strengths and outsource what you don't do well. Focus on those strengths to derive maximum return on your work and pass on those activities that could be done better by someone else.

5. Create a balance and discard those activities that do not carry a productive value. There is only so much time in a day. Be effective in doing those things that let you grow as a person and those that add value to your time.

6. Build up your network. Know lots of people – different kinds of people. Be interested in people. Value people and value relationships.

7. Believe in your vision. Believe you can and will create value in your work. While it is not easy, it is important to build your self-confidence by daily affirming yourself and visualizing what you want to achieve.

8. Be the best by inculcating a positive mind set. Often physical rewards motivate us and when we do not receive those, we tend to be discouraged and that prevents us from doing our best. Instead, come from a positive position that affirms the process and not just the results. Knowing that you have done your best and will continue to do your best is worth celebrating more than the rewards received.

9. Set high standards. Identify your role models and set your standards to be equal or higher than them. As winners attract winners, the key is to be a winner and attract the right people to add value to your work.

10. Be a lifelong learner. Set aside time and resources to attend training on technical and personal development. Keep abreast of the current news and changes in your profession and plan your strategies towards achieving them.

# Sand and Stone (Nail the Temper "reply")

I read a very touching story from my friend blog's "Life in Black & White". That post really opened my mind about anger management and it tell me about how people heart hurt like a fence stabbed by nails. Check out Megha's post here (Nail the Temper). And here is the different perspective about the story but it still strongly related.

Sand and Stone

A story tells of two friends who were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, she wrote in the sand:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE"

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but her friend saved her. After she recovered from the near drowning, she wrote on a stone:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE"

The friend, who had slapped and saved her best friend, asked her, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now, you write on a stone, why?"

The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand, where the winds of forgiveness can erase it, but when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone, so no wind can ever erase it."

Learn to write your hurts on sand & carve your blessing on stone.

# Don't Let Yourself Park in the Comfort Zone

Brand New day start. I believe everyone passed a great season greetings last year and now we are on the beginning of 2008. New journey had begun. Allowed me to share a little value in this beginning. I got it on a local magazine. I think this is a must read article to start this year and hope this one would be a great read to continuing this life journey.

istockphoto.com

Parking in the Comfort Zone

Most of us have, in our house, a thermostat that regulates the temperature. When it gets a bit too warm, the air conditioning kicks on to bring the temperature down to an acceptable range. When the temperature drops below a comfortable point, the heater comes on to bring the room temperature up to a more comfortable level. The 'comfort zone' is the range of temperature that is not too hot and not too cold; just comfortable.

"Complacency, in our fast-paced competitive world, can be fatal to business and severely limit personal and professional growth."

Our personal 'comfort zone' is where we are comfortable in what we are doing in our jobs, our lives, our experiences. It is when we have no feelings of risk or anxiety. Some call it 'being comfortable'. Some would call it 'a rut'.

Each of us has our own personal comfort zone. We have built-in 'thermostats' that regulate our level of anxiety, fear, discomfort. In the areas of our knowledge, skills, habits and attitude, when we step outside our normal, existing boundaries, we begin to feel a bit anxious. Our natural tendency is to pull back.

Try this: fold your arms. Now, fold them the other way. How did that make you feel? Felt a bit unnatural, didn't it? That's why we usually stay within our comfort zone. When we try something new, we often feel uneasy about it, and frequently pull back. The security feels good.

The downside of all this is that always staying in our comfort zone can be very limiting. The world passes us by as we stagnate. Complacency, in our fast-paced competitive world, can be fatal to business and severely limit personal and professional growth. If we are not learning, trying new things and growing, our jobs and businesses may be deteriorating.

How do we step out of the comfort zone? Before you just throw all caution to the wind, try some simple things. Drive home a different route. Shop at a different grocery store. Order something from the menu that you've never tried before. Sleep on the other side of the bed.

Make a conscious effort to experiment. Let yourself feel the adrenaline level rise a bit. Allow your anxiety level to increase. Feel your heart rate and breathing going faster. The adrenaline is your body's natural drug that, in moderation, makes you sharp, creative, and quick. It creates the feeling of excitement and exhilaration that comes from trying something new. Recognize that it also can be scary and stressful. Some stress is useful. Too much can be harmful. Some stress provides energy. Too much stress causes distress and can lead to burnout if done to extreme.

Why would we want to give ourselves the stress of stepping outside the comfort zone? Because that's where growth takes place. Just like a muscle gets stronger when we exercise it outside its normal range of use, we get stronger when we get out of our rut. And just like our muscles, once we stretch beyond our current capabilities, we don't ever go back to our original dimensions.

As we try new things, we gain confidence. Confidence makes us feel powerful and good. And when we are confident that we can survive new ideas, we allow ourselves to try even more new things.

What's the limit? Obviously, we need to be realistic in our risk management. The most successful people think through the possible outcomes of taking a risk. Then they prepare for how they would deal with each. Successful people take risks, but they are not foolhardy or stupid.

What are some higher level activities that could add to your personal and professional growth? Here's my challenge to you. Make a list of 50 things that, if you really were successful in doing them, you would be a better person or a better company. Things like give a speech (oh no!), write and publish an article, start an exercise program, meditate daily, teach a class, feed a homeless person, volunteer, climb a mountain, learn to play a new musical instrument, sign up for a dance class, try for that promotion, and so on.

Then, from your list, choose one or two that you are willing to do within the next 90 days. Schedule this one or two new activities, then go for it. Afterward, choose one or two more and do it again. Make personal and professional growth a lifelong habit.
